Dr. Schafer Boeder is a board-certified endocrinologist and an Associate Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of California, San Diego. He earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College before attending Eastern Virginia Medical School. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine followed by a fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at UC San Diego. Dr. Boeder has a special interest in diabetes and is a member of the inpatient glycemic control team, where he cares for hospitalized patients with diabetes and other dysglycemias. He is also active in patient education through organizations such as Taking Control of Your Diabetes (TCOYD). His research focuses on new medications and technologies for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Using clinical metabolic research techniques, he evaluates the effectiveness of non-insulin adjunctive therapies in Type 1 diabetes. His goal is to address metabolic and hormonal conditions such as glucagon dysregulation, hyperketonemia, hyperinsulinemia, and insulin resistance.
