Kunal Agrawal, MD

Kunal Agrawal, MD, is a board-certified neurologist who specializes in vascular neurology and stroke treatment. He focuses on the spectrum of stroke care, including stroke prevention, acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, and post-acute stroke care.
Dr. Agrawal was instrumental in developing and implementing the COAST (Coordinating Options for Acute Stroke Therapy) stroke advance directive, affording ethical consideration of and respect for patient autonomy in their medical care.
For his excellence in patient care, medical knowledge, professionalism and system-based practice, he was honored as Attending Physician of the Year in 2022.
Dr. Agrawal is an assistant professor in the Department of Neurosciences at UC San Diego School of Medicine. His research focuses on post-acute stroke care as well as neurorehabilitation and post-stroke therapeutics. He has published several peer-reviewed articles and provides teaching and training for medical students, residents, and fellows in the treatment and management of cerebrovascular disease.
He completed a fellowship in vascular neurology at UC San Diego School of Medicine and a residency in adult neurology at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Agrawal earned his medical degree from St. George’s University, School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. He is board certified in neurology.
Dr. Agrawal is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
Outside of work, Dr. Agrawal stays active through baseball, scuba diving and running. He also enjoys trying a variety of cultural foods and restaurants.
