Deemed status refers to the recognition given to healthcare at-home agencies by CMS through CHAP accreditation. It exempts agencies from separate CMS surveys, indicating they have met federal regulatory Conditions of Participation (COPs) and are eligible for Medicare payments.
CHAP provides deemed accreditation for three years in line with Medicare requirements. Non-deemed accreditation is also available for agencies not participating in CMS programs. There are no extra charges levied for deemed status. However, large, multi-site organizations not seeking deemed status may benefit from a strategic accreditation plan to create value while controlling costs.
